  • A Beautiful Richmond Wedding – Caroline & Ed

I’m really excited to share a beautiful Richmond wedding with you all. I feel as thought I haven’t blogged in forever, and this is a beautiful wedding to pick it back up with. Phew. What can I say? Caroline and Ed had the most gorgeous September wedding at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. Anytime I get to go up to Richmond for a wedding, I am so excited. This day was so effortless because Caroline did an amazing job covering every aspect of her day.

When I first met up with Caroline and Ed in person, we basically tried to take on hurricane force winds at their engagement session. We tackled D.C. the best we could, but had to cut it short because the wind was just crazy. It’s the only time I’ve ever had to cut a session short. Then, I got home and uploaded the photos and realized that we got some of the most amazing shots in that short time we spent together in Washington, D.C. It ended up being absolutely perfect.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. I have always loved traveling over to Richmond from Lynchburg. It’s nice to get in a different environment and experience new things. Their day started at the hotel as they got ready and then they had a beautiful ceremony at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The party continued on at The Jefferson in the Empire Ballroom. Leap AV did an amazing job lighting the reception space. It was so fun seeing Caroline and Ed coming into their party and see how beautifully everything had been lit.

The party carried on into the night. It included more entertainment than to be expected. During the bouquet and garter toss, a groomsmen got iced (see below!!). They had giant glow sticks that were probably more fun to guests than they intended them to be. It was awesome. It was the party of all parties. A perfect Virginia wedding. They finished their night up at The Graduate for the after party. Ed walked over in his slippers… a great end to the night and start of their married life.

Caroline and Edwin – Thank you. If your families alone spoke for you – you are in the highest of places. You are both so kind, genuine, and down to earth. I am so excited for everything ahead of you. A life of your dreams. I loved spending the day with your family, friends, and YOU. Thank you for having me be a small part of your day.

A special thanks to all the vendors who made this day perfect:

  • Mimosa Barn – The Sheltons – Virginia Wedding Photographer

I am so excited to get this beautiful Mimosa Barn wedding on the blog today! I’ve known Johanna for some time – we share a love of field hockey. Before I moved out to Lynchburg, I would often be coaching at local hockey events that her sister was working as well. After moving to Lynchburg and spending some time helping out at Lynchburg College, I recognized her! She grew up in Virginia Beach just like me, pouring her heart into her sport and that took her to Lynchburg where she was a phenomenal athlete and student. It was full circle for me to be able to be at their (second) wedding ceremony.

I was able to spend some time with them last summer when I went out to Shawsville to meet them for their engagement session. It was such a great little town. I even got to spend time with their fur baby Kelo. Although Jo and Justin were legally married over a year ago before he went on a deployment, they wanted to have this wedding celebration with family and friends – and it was perfect. I’m going to tell you – they know how to throw a fun party!

They were married at Mimosa Barn in Cape Charles. The Eastern Shore is such a beautiful place. I spent many years driving up route 13 on my route from the beach up to Philly.  The one great thing about Mimosa farm is that it has the perfect laid back feeling of being in the country. There is a beautiful barn and plenty of greenery that light falls through so magically. There were yard games, drinks, kids, laughs and hugs. All things that mixed together perfectly on their day.

Thank you Johanna and Justin for being so down to earth. I loved spending time with you in June… and I plan to come to one of your family events in the future so I can party with you guys! Love you both.

  • Wedding at Wolftrap Farm – Grace & Robert – Lynchburg Wedding Photography

Grace & Robert’s beautiful Virginia wedding at Wolftrap Farm was absolutely perfect. Having just completed his time at the United States Naval Academy, Robert wrapped up the weekend by marrying his love on Memorial Day. Quite fitting if you ask me!

When I first met Grace we chatted over Mellow Mushroom and talked about more than just her plans for the day. We shared stories about our families and our parents. We connected and I adored her. She has a completely unique style and once you spend five minutes with her, you can’t help but love her. Fast forward to October of last year and I met up with both of them for an amazing Charlottesville engagement session at sunrise – you should definitely check it out here. We spent the morning with the sun and then ran over to the local farmer’s market to check out all the goods. It was such a blast. Even then, I had no idea how hilarious Robert was. About ten minutes into hanging out with Robert on their wedding day, I couldn’t believe how much I was laughing. Literally everything he said had me trying to hide my embarrassingly deep roar or laughter.

Wolftrap Farm is a beautiful venue located in Gordonsville, VA just outside of Charlottesville. It is tucked away down a gravel road and it is a gorgeous escape into rolling hills and a working farm. During reception Grace changed into the cutest jumpsuit and they partied the night away. So much love on this amazing day. I am so excited to follow their life and adventures. Grace writes a blog and you can follow along too! It’s called Wandering By Grace.

To Grace and Robert – thank you for being you. You are one of a kind. Your family and friends are wonderful and I am so thankful to have been a part of your special wedding day.

  • A Fincastle Wedding – Mandy & Ryan

My first wedding of 2017 went off without a hitch with a Fincastle wedding at the Kyle House. It was absolutely beautiful. I knew it would be. Mandy and Ryan are just that. When I first got to hang out with them at their engagement session, it was so laid back and I loved getting to know them. Mandy constantly exudes a gratitude that is hard to describe. She is vibrant and loving, and Ryan is her perfect compliment with his genuine care about people.

I love my job, I love getting to know my couples. I also love when they realize I am a person too with a family and I think that is part of what I bring to the table in my business. Having lost my mom last month has really given me perspective on why I do what I do. When she passed, there were so many photos we spent time looking through. Such a beautiful documentation of the amazing life she lived and her story – and this post is not about my mom, but about what I realized in her final days – life passes, but we have this amazing opportunity to capture small moments in time. I want to bring that to every wedding I photograph. I want to bring my couples memories, stories and documentation that they have lived a full life.

A wedding day is one of the most magnificent and beautiful times in a family’s story. It deserves all the attention to detail, all the candid moments and all the realness that it is. I want my couples to be able to look back at when they started their lives together (officially). I photographed Mandy and Ryan’s wedding the day after we said our final goodbyes to mom, and for me that was amazing thing. To lose something and then realize all that I will gain in 2017 creating memories for people who are absolutely wonderful and deserving of these moments in their lives.

Mandy and Ryan – thank you. Thank you for being real. Thank you for being a blessing to me as the start of my 2017 wedding season.

  • Christmas Inspired Wedding – Jenny & Nick

I am so excited to share Jenny and Nick’s Christmas inspired wedding with you all! It was a beautiful, chilly day just a week before Christmas. Lucky for us the rain held out and it was just gorgeous. Jenny was a very hands on bride, working closely with her florist for the perfect florals. She looked just breathtaking and classy in her wedding gown that she got from her friends bridal shop. Nick looked sharp in a classic suit and tie.

Jenny and Nick share a love for a lot of things including music, Harry Potter and their dear friends. When we first got to the Church, it was a bit misty and I was hoping it would clear up in time for some outdoor portraits – which it did. They had a beautiful church ceremony followed by a reception at Celebrations at the Resevoir in Moseley, VA. Celebrations was lit up with Christmas trees and light that gave off this glowing, intimate feeling. I can’t say enough about how gracious everyone was, not for me, but to be a part of this amazing celebration of these two people. It was such a wonderful way to wrap up my 2016 weddings. I am so thankful to have spent another year documenting the most important days of people’s lives.

Jenny and Nick, thank you so much for having me join in your day. I wish you so much happiness and joy for your future together.
